SIX PIRATES ARMED WITH RPG AND GUNS IN A SPEED BOAT CHASED AND FIRED UPON A BULK CARRIER IN 10-39N 054-50E AT 110700Z FEB. THE VESSEL WAS ABLE TO TAKE EVASIVE MANEUVERS AND ESCAPED FROM THE PIRATES. ALL SHIPS ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO MAINTAIN A STRICT 24 HOUR VISUAL AND RADAR WATCH. EARLY ASSESSMENT AND DETECTION WILL ALLOW SHIPS TO TAKE EVASIVE MEASURES TO PREVENT BOARDING AND REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE. PAST REPORTING SUGGESTS A HIGH PROBABILITY OF ADDITIONAL ATTACKS WITHIN 50 MILES OF THIS POSITION WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS. ALL ATTACKS AND SUSPICIOUS SIGHTINGS SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE IMB REPORTING CENTER, PHONE: 603 2031 0014, E-MAIL: [email protected].
