A MERCHANT VESSEL REPORTED THAT EIGHT PIRATES IN TWO SKIFFS ATTEMPTED TO BOARD THEIR VESSEL VICINITY 02-38.0S 053-49.0E AT 050530Z MAY. A THIRD BOAT WAS OBSERVED IN THE VICINITY ASSESSED TO POSSIBLY BE A MOTHER SHIP. VESSEL INCREASED TO MAX SPEED, TOOK EVASIVE MANEUVERS AND PREVENTED BOARDING. SKIFFS LAST OBSERVED IN 02-35.6S 053-52.9E AT 050550Z MAY. THE PROBABILITY OF ADDITIONAL ATTACKS IN THIS LOCATION IS VERY HIGH, PARTICULARLY IN THE NEXT 24 TO 48 HOURS WITHIN 50 MILES OF THIS INCIDENT. WEATHER CONDITIONS REMAIN FAVORABLE FOR PIRATE SMALL BOAT OPERATIONS.
