WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA. AN EARTHQUAKE OCCURRED AT 100252Z JAN WITH A PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE OF 7.8, IN 17-30N 083-36W. A TSUNAMI MAY HAVE BEEN GENERATED. TSUNAMI WAVES ARE POSSIBLE ALONG SOME COASTS. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND MAY BE A SERIES OF WAVES WHICH COULD BE DANGEROUS FOR SEVERAL HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE ARRIVAL.
