AN EARTHQUAKE OCCURRED AT 152341Z AUG. PRELIMINARY MAG 7.9, PRELIMINARY LOCATION 13.5S 076.7W VICINITY OF PERU COAST. A TSUNAMI WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR PERU, CHILE, ECUADOR AND COLOMBIA. A TSUNAMI WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR PANAMA, COSTA RICA, NICARAGUA, GUATEMALA, EL SALVADOR, MEXICO AND HONDURAS. A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED WHICH COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO COASTS AND ISLANDS IN THE PACIFIC AREA. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND MAY BE A SERIES OF WAVES WHICH COULD BE DANGEROUS FOR SEVERAL HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE ARRIVAL.
