The available volcanic activity archive contains 191 messages across 28 issue years, from 1998 to 2026. The year links below provide the source and sea-area breakdowns for each period.

The current list includes messages issued from 2021-07-13 to 2026-09-08. A warning can remain in force for an extended operation, so this list is not a list of new incidents.

Terms used in volcanic warnings

Volcanic activity
An erupting or restless volcano near or under the sea, with a keep-clear radius around it.
Discoloured water
Patches of unusually coloured sea — often a sign of a submarine volcano or of a shoal.
Pumice
Light volcanic rock floating in rafts after a submarine eruption; it can clog engine cooling intakes.
