WESTERN NORTH PACIFIC. KURIL ISLANDS. DNC 24. AN EARTHQUAKE OCCURRED AT 250249Z MAR WITH A PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE OF 7.8, PRELIMINARY LOCATION 49-00N 157-42E IN VICINITY OF THE KURIL ISLANDS. POSSIBLE TSUNAMI WAVES HAVE BEEN GENERATED WHICH COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO COASTS AND ISLANDS IN THE PACIFIC AREA. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND MAY BE A SERIES OF WAVES WHICH COULD BE DANGEROUS FOR SEVERAL HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE ARRIVAL.
