Sperm Whale Carcass: Drift Analysis, Key West, FL. Offshore Key West, FL. 1. On May 12, 2022, the Florida SSC was contacted by NMFS marine mammal disaster response coordinator to request a trajectory for a sperm whale carcass that had been necropsied following a beaching and then towed offshore. NMFS is tracking the carcass in an effort to improve marine mammal drift analysis and also coordinating with NESDIS to discover and track whale carcasses from satellite imagery. 2. THREAT: OTHER. 3.
