Large Explosion at Pharmaceutical Chemical Factory, Newburyport, MA.
9 Opportunity Way, Newburyport, MA 01950, USA.
1. Around 12:45 am on 4 May 2023, there was a chemical explosion at a pharmaceutical chemical factory, PCI Synthesis plant. Ansulite 3x3 foam was used in the fire suppression system. One worker remains unaccounted for. Currently, the site is secure and the EPA is the lead Federal agency. The NOAA SSC contacted the ERD chemistry team for additional information on the chemicals involved in the fire.
