Sunken Vessel in Kake Harbor; Kake, AK.
Kake Harbor, Kake, AK 99830, USA.
1. On 11-Oct 2023, USCG Sector Southeast Alaska initiated an Emergency ESA Section 7 Consultation for an 80’ wooden hull vessel that sank at the pier in Kake Harbor, Kake, AK. The vessel has an unknown amount of oil onboard and is creating a large sheen in the harbor. The Coast Guard has contracted Hanson Maritime to initiate a response utilizing boom and divers in the harbor. NOAA AK aSSC was not notified by USCG for this incident, but was included on the email traffic for the consultation and am now coordinating with NMFS.
