M/V Norseman II Stuck in Ice; Bering Strait, Alaska.
Bering Strait, Alaska.
1. On June 5, 2024, the USCG Sector Western Alaska-US Arctic contacted the AK SSC regarding the M/V Norseman II. The vessel is currently stuck in sea ice ~35 miles north of Wales, AK with has 39,000 gallons of diesel on board. The vessel has had a casualty to the rudder but is otherwise intact and no release has occurred. USCG requested fate and trajectory modeling for a potential discharge that could occur within the next 7 days.
2. THREAT: OIL. COMMODITY: DIESEL. MAXIMUM POTENTIAL RELEASE: 39000 GALLONS.
