Breton Island Oil Spill; LA. LA. 1. On the morning of June 12th an equipment failure on an oil rig caused the release of an estimated 8-12 bbls of LA crude oil. Initial reports noted some shoreline impacts and bird mortalities in the vicinity of Breton Island, LA. This is within the Breton Island NWR.
