1. On August 11, 2006, the tanker M/T Solar 1 sank offshore of Guimaras Island, near Iliolo, in the central Philippines. The vessel was carrying an estimated 2 million liters of bunker fuel for a local powerplant. The vessel is reported to be sunken in 700 meters of water. A substantial but unknown amount of oil has leaked from the vessel, oiling shorelines on Guimaras Island. The USCG Pacific Strike Team is responding and has requested NOAA HAZMAT support.
2. THREAT: OIL. COMMODITY: HEAVY FUEL OIL. MAXIMUM POTENTIAL RELEASE: 528000 GALLONS.
