1. On the morning of January 31, 1989, Amoco oil platform Anna accidentally released approximately 520 barrels of an oil-water mixture into the ice-filled Upper Cook Inlet. Apparently, a valve malfunction caused a tank to overflow. An overflight by Amoco and U.S. Coast Guard personnel sighted crude oil approximately one mile south of the platform between leads and on the ice in seven patches measuring 15 feet by 50 feet). Due to extreme cold weather and heavy ice conditions, mechanical cleanup was not deemed feasible. USCG district 17.
2. THREAT: OIL. COMMODITY: CRUDE OIL, CONTAMINATED WATER. MAXIMUM POTENTIAL RELEASE: 4620 GALLONS.
