Rockaway, NY.
1. The freighter Golden Ventra ran aground off Rockaway, NY at approximately 0200 on 6/6/93. The fuel on board consisted of 500 tons (150,000 gallons) of number 2 oil. Approximately 200 illegal aliens were on board the vessel when she grounded. The Coast Guard's initial response was rescuing these individuals from the water, as they all jumped overboard after the grounding (might say we had a alien spill). . CG contacted NOAA SSC for possible trajectory for potential spill of #2 and also resources at risk. . The location of the grounding is: 40 degrees 33.6 N 73 degrees 53.1 W . USCG district 1.
2. COMMODITY: #2 FUEL OIL. MAXIMUM POTENTIAL RELEASE: 150000 GALLONS.
