Original warning text

Tokyo Senator; Port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk, Virginia.
Port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk, Virginia.
1. On April 28, 1994, there was a fire aboard the German cargo ship Tokyo Senator as the vessel passed through Thimble Shoals Channel, Virginia. The Tokyo Senator was carrying zinc, lead, and arsenic in the starboard and forward sections of Bay 2. MSO Hampton Roads ordered the vessel to wait at the anchorage until an assessment of the danger to the vessel, her crew, or the public could be completed. The onboard carbon dioxide fire suppression system was activated and appeared to limit the spread of the fire. The Incident Response Team (IRT), a group of area fire fighters trained to fight fire aboard vessels, determined that the fire's hotspot was in the after port section of Bay 2, was stable, and the danger to the public or the crew from those materials on the dangerous cargo manifest (DCM) was minimal. USCG district 5. Keyword: none.
2. COMMODITY: THIOUREA DIOXIDE.
