Looe Key, Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
1. At 0040 on August 11, 1994, the USCG was notified that the University of Miami's 170-foot research vessel, the Columbus Iselin, had run aground on coral in the Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary. At 0530 MSO personnel onscene reported a small amount of fuel leaking from the vessel. Observers on an 0845 overflight reported that the vessel was aground and a light sheen extended approximately one-half mile west of the grounding site. USCG district 7. Keyword: none.
