Original warning text
F/V Maria Angela; Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. 1. The 75-foot, steel-hull fishing vessel Maria Angela ran hard aground one mile off the entrance to Nantucket Harbor. NOAA was notified of this potential spill on November 15, 1996, by the Port Operations officer from USCG Marine Safety Office (MSO) Providence who requested information regarding the expected fate of the oil (if spilled) and the resources that would be at risk. The SSC provided fate information using NOAA's computer program ADIOS and consulted the National Weather Service (NWS) to help predict where the oil might impact. The SSC also identified sensitive areas within the potential impact area and suggested protection priorities. The fishing vessel was refloated at the next high tide without releasing any oil. USCG district 1. Keyword: potential. 2. THREAT: OIL. COMMODITY: DIESEL. 3. POSITION 41.283N 070.117W. NOAA INCIDENTNEWS 7162: https://incidentnews.noaa.gov/incident/7162
