Sewage Spill; Westchester Creek, New York. Westchester Creek, New York. 1. At approximately 1700 on June 28, 1997, a 15.5 million-gallon raw sewage spill was discovered at a sewage treatment plant. The sewage was spilling into Westchester Creek, which empties into Long Island Sound. The spilled material began leaving the treatment plant at 1730 on June 27 and was not shut off until 0930 on June 28. ACT NY was contacted by Westchester County (New York) Health Department officials and requested to provide assistance. USCG district 1. Keyword: none. 2. COMMODITY: RAW SEWAGE.
