1. At 0659 EDT on 5 July 2000, the Tank Barge Penn 460 was holed approximately 3 miles NNE of the Newport Bridge in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island. Initial reports indicate that 300 bbls of #6 Fuel Oil have been released into the water from a 12000 bbls cargo tank. Approximately 2 miles of shoreline along the west side of Aquidneck Island have already been oiled. The NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator is on-scene. NOAA/HAZMAT is providing weather and trajectory support and resources at risk information. USCG district 1.
2. THREAT: OIL. COMMODITY: #6 FUEL OIL. MAXIMUM POTENTIAL RELEASE: 12600 GALLONS.
