1. At approximately 1530 EST on Aug.13, 2008, the M/V Island Intrepid, a 279ft. general cargo container, has run hard aground on a coral ledge in the entrance to the Port of Miami ("Government Cut"). Location: 25deg45.874N, 080deg08.014W. Steering failure has been reported as the cause. The vessel is holed and taking on water, but no release of fuel or cargo has occurred. USCG Sector Miami notified NOAA ERD at approximately 1115 EST on 14Aug requesting a worst case oil spill trajectory for a potential spill of 72 MT (~23,000 gals) of diesel fuel.
