“USCG Sector Delaware Bay opened up the fund to retrieve the 1000 gallon fuel tank. North Star Marine was contracted to do this and was on scene Monday, July 20th around 7:00 am. The owner had no insurance and no money to salvage this fishing vessel.” Current outcome is not independently verified by seahazards.[3]

7/20/09 Update
Source report excerpt: “Three commercial fishermen were rescued from a lifeboat after abandoning their sinking scallop boat, which had caught fire early Sunday morning roughly 20 miles off Barnegat Inlet, NJ. An engine fire on the 79-foot scallop fishing vessel Captain OJ Riggs, registered out of Atlantic Beach, NC, started around 0300 on Sunday. The scallop boat broadcast a mayday call around 0325 reporteing that its engine on fire and later that the crew abandoned the vessel. USCG Atlantic city launched a helicopter from its Air Station in Atlantic City, NJ. The vessel capsized and sank at approximatley 1000 hours on Sunday. No reports of any oil pollution. Will continue to follow-up with USCG.”
