    1. At about 1130 on May 25, 1993, a southbound commuter train ruptured a transformer and sprayed approximately 100 gallons of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) over two miles of Track 4. At the time of the incident it was sunny with air temperature in the 70s, but showers were forecast for the evening. A cleanup contractor was hired to remove the spilled PCBs and AST)personnel were sent to oversee the cleanup. Areas of obvious contamination were removed. USCG district 1. Keyword: none.

    1. The freighter Golden Ventra ran aground off Rockaway, NY at approximately 0200 on 6/6/93. The fuel on board consisted of 500 tons (150,000 gallons) of number 2 oil. Approximately 200 illegal aliens were on board the vessel when she grounded. The Coast Guard's initial response was rescuing these individuals from the water, as they all jumped overboard after the grounding (might say we had a alien spill). . CG contacted NOAA SSC for possible trajectory for potential spill of #2 and also resources at risk. . The location of the grounding is: 40 degrees 33.6 N 73 degrees 53.1 W . USCG district 1.
