Original warning text

F/V Alaskan Capsized; Kuiu Island, SE Alaska.
Kuiu Island, SE Alaska.
1. On 9-AUG-2024, USCG Southeast Alaska contacted the NOAA AK SSC and NW RRO about the 48ft wood hulled purse seine FV Alaska that capsized yesterday (8-AUG-2024) near Gap Point in Tepenkof Bay off Kuiu Island. The vessel sank to a depth of 50 fathoms, with a max potential of 1,000 gallons of diesel aboard, however it is believed that only 200-300 gallons were in the tanks at the time. The vessel also sank while the purse seine net was actively deployed. No sheen has been reported and the net has not been located at this time. USCG is requesting an informal ESA Section 7 Consultation with NMFS and USFWS.
2. THREAT: OIL.
