Seal Island Mystery Sheen - 2026 Occurrence; North Slope, Alaska. North Slope, Alaska. 1. A mystery sheen has occurred near the former Seal Island oil exploration site in the Beaufort Sea, west of Prudhoe Bay. Sheen has been observed at this site in summer months since 2024. The source is unknown. Alaska Clean Seas is conducting cleanup operations of the recoverable oil emerging from the ice. 2. THREAT: OIL. 3. POSITION 70.483N 148.683W.
