1. At approximately 0340 on May 20, 1991, the Bahamian motor vessels LA MINERA and HELIZE collided. Both vessels were on a southeasterly course about 110 nautical miles southeast of Galveston, Texas. No casualties were reported. MINERA received damage to her #8 port, double-bottom tank containing approximately 280 barrels of #6 fuel oil and was taking on water rapidly. HELIZE proceeded without incident to her destination in Florida. LA MINERA changed course for Galveston, leaking an estimated two barrels per hour of what was described as catalytic feed stock oil (API 16.0). Approximately 10 hours later, still leaking oil, LA MINERA reached the Galveston area and was instructed to anchor about 20 nautical miles east-southeast. USCG district 8.
2. COMMODITY: #6 FUEL OIL. MAXIMUM POTENTIAL RELEASE: 11800 GALLONS.
