Weyerhaeuser Turpentine Spill; Longview, Washington.
Longview, Washington.
1. At approximately 1300, January 27, 1997, an accident at the Weyerhaeuser Plant in Longview, Washington resulted in 8,700 gallons of crude sulfate turpentine being discharged into a drainage ditch that emptied into a large settling pond. The spill was contained and cleanup activities initiated by Weyerhaeuser. The following morning, sites downstream from the Longview facility as far as Astoria, Oregon reported the presence of a strong odor. USCG district 13. Keyword: vacuum trucks.
