1. At 0200 hrs CST on 21 March, the NOAA SSC was notified of a barge aground just south of the ICW and west of the bridge to St. George Island, FL ( approximately N29? 41' Lat. W84? 52' Long.). The barge is carrying gasoline and diesel fuel. At least two tanks are reported leaking, and both gasoline and diesel are reported leaking at an estimated rate of 5 gallons/minute (caution, the leak rate is an estimate only). The barge is Brown Marine #920 and is 360' long with a 62,000 ton capacity. The grounding occurred at 1900 hrs on 20 March, 2000. The total volume of diesel and gasoline cargo is currently unknown. NOAA has been asked to provide weather, trajectory, and resources at risk information to the MSO. The Apalachicola Bay area has many active commercial oyster fisheries.
