Calcium Chloride Barge; Baton Rouge, LA.
Baton Rouge, LA.
1. On the evening of 14 January 2008, the NOAA SSC was notified by the HAZMAT Duty Officer of an incident on the Mississippi River near Baton Rouge, LA. A barge carry 4000 bbls of Calcium Chloride solution capsized for reasons unknown at present. The barge has been pushed to the river's edge, and a salvage crew is responding. The RP reports that the barge is not leaking, but that would be very difficult to assess given that the product is heavier than freshwater.
2. THREAT: CHEMICAL. COMMODITY: CALCIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTION.
