Dolphin Mortality Event; Galveston, TX.

1. NOAA ERD was contacted by NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement regarding an unusual mortality event along Galveston Island, TX. Over the past week, several dozen dolphin carcasses have been found beached in a three-country area, with more animals coming ashore today. The animals, all bottlenose dolphins, are believed to have been dead for several weeks. NOAA ERD was requested to conduct a hindcast analysis to narrow the search area for planned aerial surveys.
