KMTEX Pyrolysis Gas; Port Arthur, TX. Port Arthur, TX. 1. On May 21, 2008, NOAA ERD was contacted regarding a release of approximately 1000 gallons of pyrolysis gas (high levels of Benzene) at the KMTEX facility in Port Arthur, TX. The material, although highly flammable, was boomed off. USCG requested fates of the spilled material and potential inhalation and explosion hazards. USCG also requested recommendations on whether to maintain the containment boom or not. 2. THREAT: OIL. 3. POSITION 29.900N 093.930W.
