Mississippi River MM98 (New Orleans, LA).
1. On October 22, 2013, the NOAA SSC was contacted by USCG Sector New Orleans regarding a 61 ft towing vessel, "Christine Alexis," reported to be overturned and resting on bottom near Mississippi River MM 98 (adjacent LA Ave. Wharf, New Orleans, LA). Reported 20,000 gallons of total petroleum liquids including 15,000 gal of diesel onboard. Approximate 10 ft by 5 ft reddish sheen reported in vicinity of vessel, 3 ft by 50 yard rainbow sheen and 1.5 mile by 50 yard light silver sheen downstream. NOAA Emergency Response Division providing oil trajectory and effects analysis.
2. THREAT: OIL. COMMODITY: DIESEL, PETROLEUM LUBRICANTS. MAXIMUM POTENTIAL RELEASE: 20000 GALLONS.
