    1. On the evening of 25 June 2009, the regional NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator was notified of a tug sinking near the Causeway Bridge in Lake Pontchartrain, LA. The tug was reported to have 5000 gallons of diesel on board, but the release rate and volume may be significantly less due to the reported capsized position of the barge (upside down). The location of the incident appears to be just E of the Causeway Bridge at 30° 3’ 34” N Lat. 090° 0’ 40” W Long. The barge was reported to have sunk at 7:00 PM.

    1. On the morning of July 7th, the NOAA HAZMAT Duty Officer was notified by the USCG of a release of Ethyl Acrylate vapor from a tank failure at the Dow Chemical plant. A NOAA SSC is currently en route. At this time a lot of information is still unknown. Updates will be posted as new information presents itself.

    1. At 9:58 PM (local time) on 14 July 2009, the regional NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator (SSC) was contacted by USCG Sector New Orleans relative to a Hydrofluoric Acid incident at the Chalmette Refinery. The cause of the incident was an equipment failure. Apparently, acid used in the refinery process that was entering into a heat exchanger and associated cooling water. The effluent water was being discharged into the Mississippi River.
