Polymer-Based Drilling Fluid Spill; Tacoma, WA.

1. USCG Sector Puget Sound notified the NOAA SSC of a spill of polymer-based drilling fluid into the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma, Washington on October 21, 2013. The discharge reportedly resulted from an open valve on a barge that grounded at midnight on Monday.
2. THREAT: OTHER. COMMODITY: HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT COPOLYMER (ACRYLATE/ACRYLAMIDE). MAXIMUM POTENTIAL RELEASE: 21000 GALLONS.
