Rescue coordination centres run search and rescue in their region. They issue warnings when a vessel is in distress, overdue or missing, when a person is overboard, or when a distress alert cannot be resolved, and they ask every ship in the area to keep a lookout and report. Many of their broadcasts are short-lived; seahazards publishes search-and-rescue messages only once the case has been closed for 30 days.
