World-Wide Navigational Warning Service

NAVAREA VIII

Coordinated by India (Indian Naval Hydrographic Department); covers the central and northern Indian Ocean, including the Bay of Bengal.

NAVAREA VIII covers much of the Indian Ocean, including the Bay of Bengal and the waters around India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. India's Naval Hydrographic Department coordinates it, and it is one of the busiest areas in NGA's HYDROPAC relays — missile and rocket test areas in the Bay of Bengal are frequent.

seahazards does not read India's own list; NAVAREA VIII warnings appear here as NGA HYDROPAC relays that name the area as their source.
