1. SEISMIC SURVEY IN PROGRESS UNTIL 25 JAN
   BY M/V CGG AMADEUS TOWING EIGHT
   8000 METER LONG CABLES IN AREA BOUND BY
   23-00.0N 079-07.0W, 22-43.0N 078-28.5W,
   22-35.4N 078-32.2W, 22-52.0N 079-10.0W.
   WIDE BERTH REQUESTED.

Seismic survey: A survey that maps the rock beneath the seabed with sound pulses from air guns, recorded on streamers kilometres long.
Towed array / streamer: Equipment towed a long way behind a vessel — sonar, a hydrophone cable, a sampling sled — invisible at the surface.
Tow / towing: A vessel towing another vessel, a barge or a structure — slow, hard to manoeuvre, and with a long line between.
