Reading this warning
- DNC (Digital Nautical Chart)
- A reference to one of the regions of NGA's Digital Nautical Chart, used to tell the reader which charts a warning affects.
- Within a radius of
- A circular area — every position within a stated distance of a point.
- Track line joining
- Introduces a route through a series of positions — a cable route, a tow's track or a survey line.
- Position (degrees and minutes)
- How warnings write positions: degrees, a hyphen, then minutes, with N/S and E/W — 49-40.8N 003-43.8W.
- Area bound by
- Introduces a list of positions that are the corners of an area — the polygon the warning applies to.
- Restricted in ability to manoeuvre
- A vessel whose work — cable laying, diving, dredging, towing — stops it from keeping out of other ships' way.
- AIS (Automatic Identification System)
- The radio transponder system that broadcasts a ship's identity, position, course and speed — and can mark a hazard with a virtual beacon.
