1. SEISMIC SURVEY IN PROGRESS UNTIL 16 DEC
   BY M/V ORIENT EXPLORER TOWING FOUR MILE
   LONG CABLE IN AREA BOUND BY
   03-00N 118-00E, 03-00N 119-45E,
   01-00N 120-00E, 00-40S 118-20E,
   00-30N 118-30E, 01-00N 119-10E.
   FIVE MILE BERTH REQUESTED.

Seismic survey: A survey that maps the rock beneath the seabed with sound pulses from air guns, recorded on streamers kilometres long.
Towed array / streamer: Equipment towed a long way behind a vessel — sonar, a hydrophone cable, a sampling sled — invisible at the surface.
Tow / towing: A vessel towing another vessel, a barge or a structure — slow, hard to manoeuvre, and with a long line between.
