1. In the early morning of February 20, 1989, the Yardarm Knot hit a reef on the southeastern side of St. Paul Island while breaking off its transfer operation with a catcher boat. The 320-foot fish-processing vessel, owned by HAK Inc. in Seattle, sustained a gash measuring three feet wide and 60 feet long and damaged its rudder. Initial reports indicated that approximately 3,500 gallons of diesel fuel had been lost, from a total of 97,000 gallons. The ship's crew of approximately 120 people was safely transferred to another vessel, and roughly 150 tons of frozen, processed crab was transferred to the M/V SWALLOW. USCG district 17.
